As part of our art direction for Fridericianum (2013-16), we created unique materials for each of the museum’s exhibitions during the tenure of director Susanne Pfeffer. Developed in close collaboration with the curators and artists, the resulting postcards, pamphlets and catalogues are a response to the specific concerns and aesthetic qualities of each show.

Working with precisely cut 16mm films, Sharits reduces film to its essential components, celluloid and light, as a reflection to the functions and conditions of the medium of film. The exhibition booklet presents the reader solely with captions and floorplans. The cover image, a reproduction of Dream Displacement, and the corresponding format of the book reference Paul Sharits’ investigations of the physical properties of celluloid and its related mechanical hardware: projector, film reel, and sound component.
